This illustration is based on the legend of the "Old Hag" who is purported to immobilize you while you are asleep and not allow you to breathe. I heard about this legend when I was a kid, and it terrified me.
I suffer from constant bouts of sleep paralysis, and it's almost always the hag that I see. She often times tries to scratch or strangle me, though there's never any real damage when I fully wake up. Great pic!

Oh Goodness....this is freaky >o<
I think I know what this is about...People who try to Lucid Dream by making their body sleep while they're consciously awake sometimes say they have hallucinations. Along with that, the sleep paralysis that your body puts you in to keep you from acting out your dreams gives you that immobilized feeling as you hallucinate.
That's actually why I'm afraid to try Lucid dreaming; I don't want to see these things...
Don't be scared TheSimplenessOfLife, as it's been pointed out, Grandma's just looking for the can. I do agree that it would be terrifying to lucid dream and see something freakish. I get the same effect if I take too much Nyquil
If I have anything sweet before bed..& the more sweeter=more terrifying..one time had rocky road ice cream with a soda..and as I start to fall asleep I felt something like a demon poking me in the side..good times..lol
Oh now you've done it! The Hag has visited each and every person who has made this image a favorite Actually, I think it's a scary scenario because apparently you are completely paralyzed when you are in her presence. Thanks for the fav
